Charles Pachter

Charles Pachter is a Canadian painter, printmaker, and sculptor known for his bold, graphic depictions of national symbols such as the moose, the Queen, and the maple leaf. Born in Toronto, Pachter studied at the University of Toronto, the Sorbonne in Paris, and the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. His work blends pop art aesthetics with Canadian iconography, resulting in striking, playful images that challenge traditional notions of national identity.

Among his most famous works are The Queen on Moose series, which humorously reimagines Queen Elizabeth II riding a Canadian moose, and Hockey Knights in Canada, a tribute to the cultural significance of hockey in the country. His large-scale murals and public art pieces, including installations in subway stations and cultural institutions, have cemented his status as one of Canada’s most influential contemporary artists.
