Description

In King of Donair, Burry turns an unremarkable moment—a house party in Halifax—into a tableau of East Coast iconography. Rendered from a top-down perspective, the scene is abstracted into clean color fields and playful proportions. The green and red pizza boxes (including the namesake donair), scattered wine bottles, and socked feet become almost ceremonial, suspended mid-movement like pop still-life.

The use of casual figuration and bold, flat shapes reflects Burry’s architectural training: everything is positioned with purpose, but rendered with a looseness that invites narrative. There is humor here, and joy, but also a quiet commentary on ritual, community, and coming of age in place. Like a memory recalled in fragments, King of Donair is both hyper-specific and emotionally universal.
