Description
Bullring, III is an unsigned lithograph by Pablo Picasso, created in 1959 as part of his Toros y Toreros series. Published by Éditions Cercle d’Art in Paris to accompany a text by legendary bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguín, the lithograph captures Picasso’s lifelong fascination with the Spanish bullfight—its spectacle, rhythm, and ritual. Printed in France and measuring approximately 11.5 × 14.5 inches, it forms part of a limited series that remains highly collectible today.
In this work, Picasso distills the energy and tension of the bullring into bold, gestural strokes—transforming tradition into abstraction. Rather than illustrating a specific moment, Bullring, III suggests the architecture of confrontation, the choreography of movement, and the emotive space between matador and beast. It is not simply a scene, but a distilled essence of cultural ritual—rendered with Picasso’s unmistakable modernist force.
