Lynda Shalagan

After beginning her artistic journey in Vancouver in the mid-1970s, she honed her skills through craft and fine art studies at Capilano College before completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1982. Now based in Halifax, she paints and teaches from her studio, Artz Gallery, where her practice continues to evolve.

Her paintings explore the rhythm between representation and abstraction, guided by an intuitive response to the natural world. Drawing from ecological, spiritual, and psychological influences, she investigates how patterns in nature reflect the interconnectedness of life. Using photographs gathered both at home and during her travels as starting points, she works dynamically—layering, scraping, and reworking surfaces—to capture the emotional energy that links human experience to the living landscape.
