About Us
My journey with art began in 1999 when I was an MBA student at Western. Walking past a small gallery—more of a framing shop—I spotted a Jean Paul Riopelle lithograph. It was framed, priced at $500, and well beyond my student budget. Of course, I bought it. That moment ignited something in me.
But the seeds of this journey were planted much earlier. Growing up in Fredericton, I spent time at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, took city-run art classes, and was surrounded by a family that encouraged curiosity. I didn’t realize it then, but those experiences shaped my lifelong connection to art.
Wherever we traveled, my wife and I sought out galleries, exhibitions, and hidden artistic corners of the world. Eventually, our two daughters joined in. They sometimes groaned at being dragged through galleries, but art became part of our collective experience—one that shaped how we explored new places.

These trips became adventures. We sought out folk artists, followed backroad signs to studios, and found unexpected treasures. In Port Medway, we passed a sign that read, “Museum and Gallery – 2 km down good quality gravel road.” My wife groaned. “We’re going, aren’t we?” And of course, we did.
Over time, I started acquiring art with an eye toward selling. I commissioned pieces, sourced unique works, and tested the market—once attempting to sell a Charles Pachter painting at Waddington’s. It nearly met my reserve, so I kept it for years before finally selling it at Heffel in January 2025. That sale sparked something I had always known—I would own a gallery one day.
Lunenburg YYZ Gallery is the next evolution of that passion. The name reflects my deep connection to both Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, and Toronto—two places that have shaped my life. One day, the gallery will have a physical home in Lunenburg. But for now, it exists here, online—a carefully curated collection of pieces that moved me, inspired me, and made me stop and feel something.
This gallery is an experiment, but a real one. Every piece I offer is something I have owned or carefully chosen. Now, I’m sharing it with you.
Take a look. Let the art speak to you. Maybe it will remind you of a place, a trip, a moment in time. Maybe it will inspire a journey of your own.
